One at a time - Podcast Transcript

Hi,
Welcome to the One at a Time, a podcast where we discuss my thoughts, ideas, and topics that I found interesting, whether it be reading about them, watching them, or hearing about them. All with the hope that somebody else finds the same topics interesting and reaches out and we just spark a conversation.
That's generally the whole purpose for this and I thought, well, I'll put myself out there and see what I catch, essentially.
So first and foremost, I guess you want to know who I am. My name's Juan, I live in Australia and immigrated from South Africa about 25 years ago now. I manage a company with about 150 to 160 people. By no means am I managing them all on my own, I've got a wonderful team around me that each lifts the load, lifts their part.
I'm in a management position, in my full-time role I deal with everything from sick notes to capital allocation within the business, and strategy, and that's kind of my interest too. My interests are investing, technology, business, and finding new and exciting ways to do old and boring things.
So the premise of One at a Time is quite simple. For each episode, I'm hoping to discuss one topic, you know, as Buffett says or Munger says, “inch wide and a mile deep” on that topic and just share my thoughts and opinions on it, it could be anything from the latest book I've read to a news story that I might have tapped on or even just personal experiences and musings that I think might bring value to somebody.
My aim is to keep the conversation going and keep it engaging, and in saying that I'm going to be the only one talking, so keeping it flowing is going to be……………….. I don't know if it's going to be easier, I don't know if it's going to be more difficult, but I'm going to try my damnedest to just keep this going and really put in the persistence rule of trying to put out an episode (each week), whether no one listens to it or a hundred people listen to it, a thousand people, just try to put an episode out and discuss something with substance and direction and see what happens.
